Cycling to Work – Part 1: Health Benefits

Cycling to work can be a great idea considering the rising costs of fuel, increase in air pollution and overly congested city streets which can make the morning commute unpleasant. Cycling to work can also be a great way to prepare for the 2014 MS Bike as well as provide you with numerous health benefits including: 

  • Improved well-being – Cycling to work is a great physical activity, and when performed a few times a week can help to alleviate anxiety, depression and stress.  
  • Weight loss - Cardio intense workouts such as biking help to decrease the risk of diseases associated with obesity including diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. Becoming more physically active also promotes an overall healthier lifestyle which will result in weight loss and muscle gain. 
  •  Enhanced Coordination – Improvements in your overall stability and balance can be achieved through cycling to work.  
  • Increase in relaxation time - Combining physical activity with your daily commute to work will save time spent at the gym, allowing you greater time for relaxation after work.
