Cycling to Work – Part 2: Cycling Tips


In the previous post we explained the many health benefits of incorporating cycling into your daily commute to work.  Here are 5 great tips to prepare you to cycle your way through your daily commute.
  • Plan ahead – Ride the route to work on your day off to ensure you are comfortable with the riding distance and time it will take to complete. Remember to ride slowly to avoid excessive sweating and to factor in extra time for traffic and poor weather conditions.
  • Gear up – Ensure you have the appropriate riding gear including a helmet, reflective clothing, bicycle lights, and a high quality lock. It is important to ensure that your bicycle’s brakes and gears are in good working order before you begin your daily commute. . 
  • Bring a change of clothes – Bring a change of clothes folded neatly within a backpack. You can also prepare ahead by leaving a few outfits and a change of shoes in a locker or office at work.
  • Avoid Burnout – To avoid burnout, gradually build up your cycling exertion by incorporating biking to work one or two days a week in the beginning. Don’t be afraid to take a day of due to poor weather conditions or if you are running late.
